Crafting should be something that helps you to take your mind off of the trickier things in life, which is why I decided to make this fun, family-friendly site. I wanted everyone out there to be able to break ground on a project that they could do from the comfort of their own homes. From creating fun, seasonal wreaths to completing your own painting, crafting is a great way to express yourself. Check out these posts to learn more about crafting, and don't hesitate to try out something new. Crafters: Tips For Saving Money When Shopping For Supplies At A Hobby Shop

by Michele Carroll

Crafting is a hobby that many people have, but a serious crafter can find that crafting throughout the year can become quite expensive if one does not pay attention to his or her shopping habits. Luckily, most cities and metro areas have multiple hobby shops where crafters can have all of the supplies that they need for their next project, and there are multiple ways to save money. If you're willing to spend a little bit of time to become a savvy shopper, you will find that your dollar stretches further when you visit a hobby store, meaning that you will be able to afford to make many more crafts. Use the following tips to save money when shopping for crafting supplies at your local hobby shop:

Use Coupons

Many popular hobby shops offer coupons on a regular basis to entice customers to shop at their stores. If your favorite hobby shop offers coupons, it doesn't make sense to shop without one. Make sure that you pay close attention to the terms of the coupons available. Sometimes coupons may be for a specific percentage off a regular priced product; these types of coupons can be very useful when you want to save money on a crafting product that rarely or never goes on sale. You may also find coupons that offer a percentage off one product that is on sale, or a percentage off your entire purchase. Utilizing coupons is a great way to help you keep your expenses down when buying crafting supplies.

Shop After Holidays

One of the easiest ways to save a substantial amount of money on crafting supplies is by shopping at a hobby shop after holidays. After a holiday is over, hobby shops tend to drastically reduce prices on items and supplies related to the holiday. For example, after Christmas passes, you will likely find Christmas crafting supplies priced at a mere fraction of the original retail price. Shop after-holiday sales and store the crafting supplies — when the holiday rolls around again, you will have all the supplies that you need to make beautiful holiday crafts for an incredibly low price.

Review Store Ads Regularly

Most hobby shops send out ads on a regular basis that outline their current sales. If you are an avid crafter, regularly viewing your favorite hobby shop's ad can help you save a lot of money. If you see that a product that you use regularly for your crafting projects is on sale for a great price, stock up on that product so you don't have to pay full price for it down the road.
